Training
GEM teams are split between 2 groups: the autorefractor team and the triage/fitting team.
The autorefractor team is responsible for determining patients’ vision prescription using the autorefractor instrument or by other means, as necessary. The triage/fitting teams performs patients’ initial triage (to determine if prescription/reader glasses are needed) and help fit/size patients’ glasses.
Global Eyeglass Ministry provides all the training that a short-term mission team needs to conduct vision clinics. Absolutely NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
Teams receive 2 days of hands-on training! They then complete a “mock clinic” with volunteer patients to practice before leaving on the trip.
